Canexus believes in building a positive and long-term impression by developing successful partnerships built on common trust and respect with employees and the local communities where they work and live. We are committed to having ongoing open dialogue with our communities and stakeholders.  We actively participate and support community development through initiatives such as increasing accessibility to education and supporting environmental management.

Current Canexus community support initiatives

  • Canexus made a donation in the amount of $10,000 US to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund that was set up by the Chlorine Chemistry Council (CCC). The Research Foundation for Health and Environmental Effects (RFHEE) is a public foundation that was established by CCC and it accepts monetary donations for the Katrina Fund to support American Red Cross relief efforts.
  • Project Fish Hook is a program at the Barra do Riacho community in Espirito Santo , Brazil that teaches new learning skills. It is a unique social program that allows the community to take leadership for its self-development. Sewing is taught to local women who then sell the garments to local shops; there is an assistant electrician's course available to men; and an artisan's course on craft skills is also available. The program celebrated it first anniversary in April 2005 and has benefited over one thousand people in the community through programs focused in education, health and professional qualification.
  • In North Vancouver , British Columbia , Canexus participated and sponsored the Maplewood Project. The project was a community development planning initiative designed to incorporate the interests of residents, business and special interest groups. As a result, several development projects are being scoped for future implementation.
  • In Brandon , Manitoba , Canexus made a donation to Brandon University for the establishment of the Chemicals Scholarship in Environmental Science.
